TELECOMS CONTRACT RENEWAL
YOU THINK YOUR TELECOMS CONTRACT IS ENDING.
Your provider may think otherwise.
After years of poor service, rising costs, or technology that no longer meets your needs, reaching the end of a business telecoms contract should feel like an opportunity.
Whether you’re reviewing a business phone system contract, broadband agreement, VoIP solution or wider communications services, contract renewal should give you the freedom to assess your options – we can help with a contract buyout.
WHY YOUR CONTRACT MAY NOT END
WHEN YOU THINK IT DOES
You want new options, a better deal, and a telecoms provider who can support and understand your business.
Instead, you’ll go to review your telecoms contract renewal only to discover you’ve missed a notice period buried in the terms and conditions. What you thought was the end of your telecoms agreement turns out to be the beginning of another fixed-term period that you’ve unintentionally committed to.
After waiting years for the chance to make a change, you’re suddenly tied in all over again.
It’s the most common frustration we hear from businesses that want to join Enconvo.
WHY STRICTER RULES MATTER
The good news is that identifying your contract clauses early enough can help you avoid unexpected renewals, regain control of your options, and make a positive decision based on what’s right for your business, not whats hidden in the small print.
After more than 25 years helping businesses review telecoms agreements, we can safely say contracts vary massively from supplier to supplier. We’ve worked hard to make our contracts as transparent for new customers as possible to avoid unwanted surprises. A careful review is often the best way to improve service, reduce complexity and move forward with confidence.
THE COST OF MISSING A TELECOMS CONTRACT RENEWAL
A missed renewal date doesn’t just affect your contract.
It can also:
- Reduce your negotiating power
- Limit your supplier choices
- Create unnecessary pressure
- Delay planned improvements
- Leave your business tied into services longer than expected
The earlier you understand your contract position, the more options you’ll have available.
A £2,000 termination fee can feel significant.
But what is another 18 months of poor service costing your business?
Lost productivity, frustrated employees, service issues, and missed opportunities often add up to far more than businesses realise.
The question isn’t whether you can afford to leave. It’s whether you can afford to stay.

DID YOU KNOW?
OFCOM REGS.
Ofcom rules prohibit telecoms providers from automatically renewing fixed voice and fixed broadband contracts for residential customers and small businesses with 10 or fewer employees without obtaining their express consent.

3 COMMON CONTRACT CHALLENGES WE SEE
While every organisation is different, we tend to see three common situations when businesses start questioning whether their current telecoms agreement is still right for them.
You assume your telecoms contract is approaching the end of its term and plan to review the market when the time is right.
What you don’t realise is that your agreement contains a notice period. By the time you begin exploring alternatives, the deadline has already passed, and your provider considers the contract renewed.
Many businesses only discover this when they start requesting quotations or planning a change.
What Does Ofcom Say?
Businesses with fewer than 10 employees benefit from additional protections under Ofcom rules, which are intended to prevent customers being automatically locked into new fixed-term agreements without their express agreement. Once the initial term ends, contracts will typically continue on a rolling basis.
Larger businesses do not benefit from the same level of protection, meaning notice periods and renewal clauses are more likely to be governed by the contract itself.
Ofcom also requires providers to issue end-of-contract notifications to consumers and microbusinesses. These notifications can be easy to overlook, especially if they are sent to a generic inbox or someone who no longer manages the account.
Customer Example
A multi-site retailer believed its telecoms contract was nearing expiry and planned to review the market once the agreement ended. However, a missed notice period meant the provider considered the agreement renewed before those discussions had taken place.
Enconvo Insight
Discovering that your contract has renewed doesn’t necessarily mean your plans have to wait another seven years.
You know your telecoms contract is due to end, but day-to-day priorities mean reviewing your options keeps slipping down the list.
Before long, the renewal date is only weeks away and you’re being asked to decide whether to renew, switch providers or commit to a new agreement, often with limited time to properly assess your options.
As a result, many businesses stay with their existing provider because it’s the quickest and easiest decision, not necessarily the best one.
What Does Ofcom Say?
Ofcom requires providers to issue end-of-contract notifications to consumers and microbusinesses, helping customers understand when their minimum term is coming to an end and providing information to support informed decisions.
Larger businesses do not benefit from the same level of protection, making it even more important to understand key contract dates, notice periods and renewal terms well before decisions need to be made.
Customer Example
A manufacturing business knew its contract was due to end but delayed reviewing its options while focusing on day-to-day operations. By the time it began exploring alternatives, the renewal date was only weeks away.
Enconvo Insight
Whether you have five employees or five hundred, starting early gives your business more control, more flexibility and more time to make the right decision.
The communications solution you originally signed up for may have been the right fit at the time.
Since then, your business may have grown significantly. You may have introduced hybrid working, opened additional sites, expanded your workforce or adopted new technologies.
The problem isn’t necessarily the contract itself. It’s that the communications solution sitting behind it no longer supports the way your business operates today.
What Does Ofcom Say?
Ofcom places importance on customers being able to make informed decisions about their communications services. Providers are expected to provide clear information about contract terms and services so customers can assess whether their existing arrangements continue to meet their needs.
Larger businesses do not benefit from the same level of protection, making it even more important to understand key contract dates, notice periods and renewal terms well before decisions need to be made.
Customer Example
A professional services firm had grown from a single office to three locations and adopted hybrid working. While its existing phone system still functioned, it lacked the flexibility and collaboration tools the business now required.
Enconvo Insight
The best time to review your telecoms contract isn’t when it ends. It’s before your business outgrows the solution behind it.
WHAT CAN YOU DO IF ANY OF THESE SCENARIOS SOUND FAMILIAR?
